  • Tofu wastewater has a high amount of organic substance. Tofu wastewater is usually dumped directly into the river without processing before so that impacted on the quality of river water. In order to reduce the impact of tofu waterwaste on the environment and health, processing of tofu waterwaste is needed. Coagulation of tofu waterwaste using Chitosan is one of the methods that can be used to improve the quality of tofu waterwaste. Chitosan contains free amino group that able to bind colloid particle on wastewater so that forming floc that can sediment. One of the materials that can be used as the material of producing chitosan is snail shell waste (Achatina fulica). The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of snail shell waste as biocoagulant to the quality of tofu wastewater used as a source in learning Biology. A kind of this research was True Experimental Research with The Posstest Only Control Group Design as a research design. This experiment design used Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) non factorial. The dose of chitosan used in this research was 0, 150, 200, 250 and 300 mg/L. The parameter used in this research was TSS, pH, BOD and COD value of tofu wastewater after given treatment. Data of this research was analyzed using One Way Anova with accuracy level 0,05. The result of this research showed that the dose of chitosan had an effect to the TSS, pH, BOD and COD value of tofu wastewater. Increasing chitosan of snail shell waste with 300 mg/L dose was optimal dose in reducing TSS and COD value with average of each 558,9 mg/L and 14.560 mg/L. 300 mg/L was optimal dose in increasing pH value of tofu wastewater with average value 4,96. There was significant difference in dosing chitosan to the BOD value of tofu waterwaste. The result of this research can be used as a source in learning Biology.
