This Research aimed at; 1) finding out students’ reading skill at the second grade of MTs AL-Hidayah Ciomas who use sustained silent reading (SSR) method; 2) finding out students’ reading skill at the second grade of MTs AL-Hidayah who do not use Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) method; and knowing whether the students though trough sustained silent reading (SSR) method have better performance in reading skill than who are taught through non sustained silent reading (SSR) method. Method used for this research is Experimental with two classes, called experimental class and control class using pre-test and post-test technique. This research involves 70 student’s as sample 35 student’s class VIII A as experimental class and 35 student’s class VIII B as control class. Based on the description and interpretation of data, it can be shown the score presentation in improving students' reading skill on descriptive text. In the Post-test in VIII A as an experimental class= 81.7 and post-test in VIII B as a control class= 78.14 (t observation) is higher than (t tabel) t observation= 8.37 t table= 1.66 or t observation 8.37 > 1.66 or t observation 8.37 > 2.38, so is rejected and is accepted.
