  • Milling machining process is machining process which is done by cutting or slashing object using spinning multipoint cutter milling. Every surface object which has been through milling machining process will result different surface roughness value. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of cutting parameter and to know the optimal combination of the cutting parameter in order to result the least surface roughness value. In this research, parameter used is spindle speed with variation of 600 rpm; 860 rpm; 960 rpm and the depth of cut with variation of 0,1 mm; 0,3 mm; 0,5 mm, however the milling process used is vertical milling process uses conventional milling machine at Stainless Steel AISI 304 material and uses endmill cutter made of HSS (High Speed Steel) with 12 mm diameter and 4 flute blade. From the data analysis using Taguchi method, it can be known that the most roughness value is on the 600 rpm spindle speed and 0.5 mm depth of cut cutting parameter that is 2.259 μ, however the least surface roughness value is on the 960 rpm spindle speed and 0.1 mm depth of cut cutting parameter that is 1.137 μm. Therefore, the best cutting parameter combination is 960 rpm spindle speed and 0.1 mm depth of cut.
