- The objectives of this research was to know and describe the students problems and strategies in translating movie subtitle. The subject of the research encompassed all of eighth semester students of English tadris study program STAIN curup who had translated movies subtitle. in STAIN Curup, the total of student was 6 students. From the population, all of the students were taken as the sample of this research by using a purposive sampling technique because the researcher only need data from the students who had transalted movies subtitle. Data were collected through interview guidance. The collected data were analyzed by using data managing, reading/memoing, data classifying, data description, and data intepreting. The findings arrive at a conclusion that there are significant problems that the students face and don’t face, and significant strategies that students used and don’t use, in translating movies subtitle. The significant problems that are face by translator in translating movie subtitle are the students face the cultural different problem which disturbed the translation process such as idiom cross cultural difference, cultural subtitute, and figurative expression. and the significant strategies that the translator use in translating movie subtitle such as syntactic strategies, and pragmatic strategies.
