After&#xD; doing preliminary observation, some of the students of the second year still had low&#xD; ability in their listening. The researcher interpreted that they had low ability in&#xD; listening comprehension, it was indicated that they had difficulties distinguishing&#xD; similar sound, not able to comprehend the content of listening text, not able to&#xD; identify what the speaker means, not able to identify speci fic information of listening&#xD; text, and cannot catch the keyword from the listening comprehension . Thus, the&#xD; researcher was interested in conducting the research entitled &#x201C;The Effect of Using&#xD; Keyword Strategy toward Listening Comprehension of the Second Year Students at&#xD; State Senior High School 1 Bangkinang Kampar Regency&#x201D;.&#xD; The type of the research was quasi-experimental research which the&#xD; researcher could not create a new participant groups for this experiment . The main&#xD; focus of this research was to find out a significant effect of using Keyword Strategy&#xD; toward Listening Comprehension of the Second Year Students at State Senior High&#xD; School 1 Bangkinang Kampar Regency. The subject of this research was the second&#xD; year students of SMAN 1 Bangkinang Kampar Regency. In this research, the&#xD; researcher took two classes; experimental and control class from the four classes of&#xD; social. There were 52 students as the sample. In collecting the data, the researcher&#xD; used test. The test used was listening test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used&#xD; independent sample T-Test operated by SPSS 16.&#xD; Finally, the research found that Ha&#xD; was accepted and H&#xD; 0&#xD; was rejected. Besides,&#xD; it could be proved from the mean score of students&#x2019; listening comprehension of post&#xD; test that at experimental was higher (62, 50) than at control class (53, 54).&#xD; Furthermore, the category of students&#x2019; improvement in listening comprehension at&#xD; the experimental class was middle, while in control class was low.
