  • This research was conducted because there are some problems found by students in learning English especially in speaking. The writer found that some of students of the second year had lack of speaking ability, proved by finding difficulties in communicating with English. This research was aimed to know the students’ speaking ability taught by using Plus Minus Interesting strategy and the students' speaking ability taught without using Plus Minus Interesting strategy and to find out if there is a significant effect of using Plus Minus Interesting strategy on students’ speaking ability of the second year at State Junior High School 3 Tambang. In this study, the writer took 2 classes; the experimental class and the control class from four classes consisting of 58 students as a sample from 114 students. The research design used was quasi-experimental research (nonrandomized control group pretest-posttest design). In collecting data, the writer used oral tests. There were two kinds of tests: Pretest was used to determine students 'speaking ability before getting treatment and posttest was used to determine students' writing ability after getting treatment. In analyzing the data the writer used the measurement of the value of speaking. The values obtained were analyzing using the T-test formula in SPSS. Based on the research findings, the value of t0 is greater than T table, so it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha accepted. It can be interpreted that there is a significant effect of using Plus Minus Interesting strategy on students' speaking ability of the second year at State Junior High School 3 Tambang, evidenced by students' speaking ability using Plus Minus Interesting strategy which is categorized into good level, while students' speaking ability is not taught with Minus Interesting Plus strategy categorized into less level.
