- Background : Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and gamal leaves are natural ingredients that are empirically used by the community as alternative medicines and are useful as an antibacterial. VCO contains lauric acid while gamal leaves contain flavonoids, tannins, saponins and steroids that function as antibacterial. This study aims to determine whether the combination of VCO and gamal leaves has different inhibitory ability against Staphylococcus aureus and determine the category of inhibition zone of the combination of VCO and leaves on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. In this study, gamal leaf extract was obtained by maceration process with 90% ethanol solvent while VCO obtained from KWT Bali Cocos was a group of farmer women located in Tengkudak Village. Method : This type of research is a true experiment with a One-Step Case Study design using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method with five concentrations (15%, 20%, 30%, 45% and 60%), positif control (Amoxcillin). Result : the results obtained were the mean diameter of inhibition zone combination of VCO and extracts of gamal leaf (Gliricidia sepium) concentrations of 15% (7.3 mm), 20% (8.5 mm), 30% (9.5 mm), 45% (9.8 mm) and a concentration of 60% (11.5 mm). These five concentrations are categorized as having moderate to strong inhibition. Statistical analysis of the One Way Anova test obtained p value (0,000) <α (0.05). In the LSD (Least Significant Difference) test also showed that there were significant differences in each concentration. Conclution : this shows the difference in inhibition of the combination of VCO and gamal leaf extract with various concentrations (15%, 20%, 30%, 45% and 60%) on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
