Daftar Isi:
- Filler is a material generally mixed in epoxy adhesives to change the adhesive properties especially the viscosity and to a certain extent can increase the stickiness of adhesion. This study aims to determine the effect of type and volume fraction of filler on epoxy adhesive to shear strength and failure modes on aluminum joint with epoxy adhesive. The joint on the made of 1100 aluminum with epoxy as adhesive. Filler used was fly ash, pumice stone, CaCO3, ground glass, and cement with the size less than 200 mesh and the variation of volume fraction that is 0%, 5%, 15%, and 25%. The specimen was glued for 24 hours, after which the shear testing and SEM observations were performed. The test results show that the shear strength value of aluminum joint with epoxy adhesive reaches the optimum value at 15% volume fraction for the five filler types. The fly ash filler has the highest shear strength at a 15% volume fraction of 14.10 MPa. Overall, as seen from the mode of failure at 0%, 5%, and 25% of the mode of failure fraction occurs in a mixture of interfacial and cohesive near the interface. While at the volume fraction of 15% failure occurs interfacially and there is also a tear in the adhesive. This suggests that the failure surface can be a clue about how well the joint strength is.
