Mixed Method Quantitative-Qualitative research method with single group design is used in this study. The population of this study is all of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Gunungsari in academic year 2018/2019. 32 students of VIII A are chosen purposively as the sample of this study. The data are gathered through speaking test and questionnaire. Ttest is used to analyze the data to get the tscore. Tscore is compared with the ttable to see whether there is a significant improvement of students’ speaking skill. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that ttable for significant level of 0.05 (95%) and degree of freedom 31 is 1.696, while the tscore is 3.225. It means that tscore bigger than ttable = 3.225 > 1.696. It proves that there is a significant improvement of students’ speaking skill after being taught by using picture series as a teaching media. Students’ answer to the questionnaires shows that there are some other factors that contribute to the students’ improvement in speaking skill besides using teaching media such as motivation, interest, and also learning style and learning strategy.
