- Spermatozoa will undergo metabolism during storage. Metabolic processes produce lipid peroxide reacts with free radicals, that activate Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) overload, and decrease in sperm quality during the storage process. This study aims about effect onion extract in andromed diluents to spermatozoa quality. Research carried out by diluting the semen using andromed diluent with the addition of onion extract at 0%, 1%, 2%, and 3% during 1, 2 and 3 hours storage at room temperature. The design of experiments used was Complete randomized design with a nested pattern 16 repetitions, if there is a difference followed by Duncans Multiple Range Test. The observations showed that the rate of addition of onion extract provides a significant influence (P <0.01) against motlitas spermatozoa. Onion Extract Addition of 2% (P2) gives the best results on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd hours respectively (62,50 ± 6,3)%, (61,25 ± 5,6)%, (50,00 ± 0,0)%. Onion extract additional level also gives a significant influence (P <0.05) in maintaining the viability of spermatozoa during storage. Percentage viability P2 treatment on 1, 2, and 3 hours is (92,44 ± 1,66)%, (84,.33 ± 1,70)%, (76,78 ± 3,59)%. The rate of Onion Extract 2% also can keep the increase in abnormalities of spermatozoa during storage. At the 1, 2, and 3 hours respectively for (3,51 ± 1,5)%, (2,5 ± 5,18)% and (6,51 ± 3,40)% It was concluded that the rate of viii addition of Onion Extract is a very real effect on semen quality during storage at room temperature.
