- Teaching technique helps the teacher to achieve the goal of language learning activity. The teacher should select the technique that suitable with the condition. Students` perception on native speaker teaching techniques can influence the success of teaching and learning process. Perception of the students can be divided into positive and negative perception. In this research, the researcher used survey as the research design to get the information about students` perception on teaching techniques used by English department native speaker. The subjects of this research were one native speaker who taught speaking I subject and 37 students of speaking class. The instruments to collect the data were structured interview and closeended questionnaires. The result of this research showed that native speaker used several techniques, they are: Repeating, discussion, and also Competition techniques. Students gave positive perception on linguistic and nonlinguistic aspect of native speaker’s teaching techniques. The students perceived that native speaker’s teaching techniques could make them easy to understand the materials, make their grammar better, added their new vocabularies, correcting their accent, make their pronunciations better. Besides, students also perceived that native speaker teaching techniques develop their confident to speak English, make them easy to share their opinion and idea, make them easy to work in group, make them enjoy in teaching and learning process.
