- Background: According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) states that the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in the world is 1.9% and has made DM as the seventh leading cause of death in the world. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia in 2013 was 2.1%. This figure is higher than in 2007 (1.1%) .The prevalence of DM in East Java experienced an increase from 2007 by 1.8% to 2.5% in 2013.Method: The design of this study used a qualitative method with a CSR approach (Case Study Research). Data validity test uses source triangulation with domain analysis in data analysis. Participants were taken as many as 3 participants, namely the patient's family, patients with diabetes mellitus and home care nurses. The research data was collected at the participant's house in the Lowokwaru village of Malang in July 2019.Results: The research data were collected using interviews and observation methods. The results showed that family knowledge is still not especially related to the process of diabetes mellitus, understanding enough to control blood glucose levels, control infection with the help of home care nurses and understand prevention methods so that there are no recurring injuries.Conclusion: Based on the results of research on family descriptions in caring for family members with diabetes mellitus foot injuries it can be concluded that family knowledge is lacking, especially related to the process of diabetes mellitus, if this is truly understood by the family then prevention can be done as early as possible.
