- Local chicken is an Indonesia local poultry that the growth tends to be slow. The low growth of local chicken is caused by genetic factors and insufficient nutritional needs. The cultivation of local chicken in Indonesia is still traditional, the feeding is still conservative and not considering the nutritional needs of local chicken. It is caused by the cost of nutritious feed that is still too expensive. Golden snail silage is a fermentation product results, in which it is made from the golden snail’s meat that contains high protein and good digestibility; thus, it can be used as the cheaper feed and nutritious for the local chicken. This research aimed at finding out the effect in giving feed mixing of the golden snail silage toward the growth of local chicken as the biology learning sources. This research divided into 2 stages, the first research stage was the production of golden snail silage by using the fermentation of golden snail’s meat with the format acid of 85% in 1 week, the second stage was the feeding by using the mixing of golden snail silage in different concentration for the local chicken and it was conducted in 4 weeks. This research used True Experimental Research as the kind of research and used The Pretest-Postest Control Group Design 1 factor as the research design. The research layout used Complete Random Design (RAL) with non-factorial pattern. The concentrations of golden snail silage were on the treatment ration of 0%, 9%, 11%, 13%, and 15%. The obtained data was the weight gain of local chicken that obtained from the weighing of local chicken for once a week. The data analysis techniques used one way analysis of variace and further test in the form of Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (BJND) of 5%. The research results showed that there was an effect of the golden snail silage in ration toward the growth of local chicken. The addition of golden snail silage of 15% produced the final average weight of local chicken as many as 172,03 grams to 298,5 grams and it was the best treatment because it could increase the growth of local chicken quickly by using the low feed conversion. This research results can be used as the biology learning sources about growth and development of creature.
