- Some people believe that learning to speak English with a native teacher is better than learning with the non-native teacher. Therefore, it is crucial to know the strengths and weaknesses of the native teacher's teaching techniques which successfully attracted the students' interest. On the other hand, this study applied a qualitative research design to collect students' perceptions of the native teacher's teaching techniques based on their experiences. The subjects were the students in the sixth semester who have learned with the native teacher at the English Language Education Department. In collecting data, the researcher employed an interview and a close-ended questionnaire. Besides, the result of this study revealed positive perceptions and negative perceptions of the native teacher’s teaching techniques. The students' positive perceptions were that the native teacher used many varieties of teaching techniques, showed correct pronunciation, increased students’ vocabulary and knowledge, introduced a foreign culture, used digital media, applied learning by doing system, etc. On the other hand, the negative perceptions were that the native teacher did not understand students' difficulties and needs, had a different accent, and applied inappropriate teaching techniques sometimes.
