  • In the cultivation of African catfish often have problems with the disease that attacks the fish. Diseases in fish arise because of interactions between host, environment, and pathogens. Diseases caused from the physical condition of damaged fish due to the emergence of symptoms of the disease such as wounds, ulcers, scabs, flaky fins, swollen abdomen, to prominent eyes (exopthalmia / popeye). More severe consequences of causing death in fish. in general, disease-causing pathogens in fish can be in the form of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa. Disease-causing bacteria in dumbo catfish, among others Aeromonas hydrophila, Streptococcus sp., Vibrio sp., Edwardsiella sp., Nocardia sp., Yersinia sp., and Acinetobacter sp.. This research was conducted on November 19-27 2018 at Fish Quarantine Installation, Quality Control and Safety of Fisheries Products (KIPM) Puspa Agro, Waru - Sidoarjo. This research was conducted using three stages of the method, namely isolation of bacteria from catfish intestines, purification of pathogenic bacterial cultures and GKO tests (Gram, Catalase, Oxidase). The results showed that in the intestines of dumbo catfish (Clarias gariepinus) there were pathogenic bacteria, namely Plesiomonas shigelloides and Edwardsiella tarda. The bacteria Plesiomonas shigelloides can cause gastroenteritis with symptoms that vary from mild and short-lived. Gastroenteritis is an infection of the stomach and intestines caused by several types of viruses and bacteria. Whereas Edwardsiella tarda bacteria is the cause of Edwardseillosis / empathetic putreactive disease of catfish (EPDC), which causes minor injuries to the skin and intestines. Both bacteria are attackers in the intestine and gill of African catfish. The presence of pathogenic bacteria found in the intestines of catfish African can be caused and caused by poorly maintained environments, too much feed, pond water, and hosts who have been infected with these bacteria. So that to overcome or prevent the presence of pathogenic bacteria can be done by maintaining the condition of the pond, pond water, feed, until the fish are maintained during cultivation.
