The effectiveness of jigsaw technique in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text (a quasi-experimental study at second year students of SMP N 110 Jakarta)

  • The objective of this study is to find the effectiveness of teaching reading comprehension of narrative text by using jigsaw technique at the second grade students of SMP Negeri 110 Jakarta academic year 2013/2014. Quasi-experimental study is used as method of the study. It uses two classes, one class as a control class, and another as an experimental class. The data are collected through tests; pre-test and post-test. The result of statistic calculation obtained that the value of t-observation (to) is 3.01 and the degree of freedom (df) is 70. In the table of significance 5%, the value of (df) = 70 is 1.99. In compare, the value of t-observation and the degree of significance is 3.01 > 1.99 which means t-observation (to) score is higher than t-table (tt) score. In other word, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, teaching in reading comprehension of narrative text by using jigsaw technique is effective
