- Tilapia is a high economic fish and many people who cultivate it, but the cultivation process is hampered by the price of feed and expensive feed raw materials. These problems may be reduced by palm kernel meal, but it contains a lot of fiber and anti-nutritive substances that could not be digested and harm for fish. So, it must be reduced by the fermentation process by S. cerevisiae. The purpose of this research is to determine the digestibility effectiveness of palm kernel meal. This research has two phases. Phase I used with difference factor of incubation time (0 hours, 24 hours, and 48 hours) and difference dose factor of S. cerevisiae (0%, 1.2%, and 1.8% ) respectively consists of 3 replications to determine the best dose and incubation in reducing crude fiber. Phase II used 3 treatments (control feed, without fermentation and with S. cerevisiae 1.8% ) and 4 replications. The fish used are male with average size 5.00 ± 1.16 g with the density of 15 fish/aquarium are kept for 40 days. The results of this study are palm kernel meal which has been fermented by 1.8% S. cerevisiae effective to increase energy digestibility parameters, dry matter digestibility, amount of feed consumption, and survival but not effective to increase protein digestibility, fat digestibility, specific growth rate, as well as feed conversion. So, it can conclude that fermented palm kernel meal can be a tilapia feed material.
