- The aim of the research is to investigate whether reading Folklore method in teaching English can improve students’ vocabulary mastery. The method of this research was Classroom Action Research which consisted of four main steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting, which was conducted in two cycles. The subject of this reseaech consisted of 31 students of the second semester at the eighth grade of MTs Al-Khairiyah Pabuaran Walantaka Serang. To collect the data, the researcher used instrument as observation sheet, documentation, pre-test and post-test. The research was considered successful if the the minimum standard score (KKM) score is 60 or over. The findings of the research showed that learning by folklore text could improve students’ vocabulary mastery. The average of pre-test score is 61.93 and the average score of post-test I is 81.93. The improvement between pre-test and post-test I is 20 %. For the post-test II, the average score is 93.55. The percentage of improvement from post-test I and post- test II is 11.62 %. It showed that reading folklore text can improve students’ ability in comprehending the text. Finally, the researcher suggested that the teachers may use folklore media in teaching English to improve students’ vocabulary mastery.
