- This research is aimed to determine how the effect of the use of model cooperatife learning type STAD toward cognitive abilities of students to the concept of the biodiversity in ecosystem preservation. This research was a quasi-experimental research that use randomized control group pretest-posttest design. Free variable in this research is the use of model cooperatife learning type STAD and ability cognitive as bound variable. The population in this research were all students of class VII MTs Nurul Falah Sabrang Petir academic year 2013/2014. The study sample consisted of two classes, class VII A as a experimental class and class VII B as a control class. The sampling techniques conducted by simple random sampling way. The data collection using pretest and posttest for measure the students’ cognitive abilities and observation sheet for enforceability of study. The average value of the students' cognitive abilities was analyzed using t test (t-test). Hypothesis influence the cognitive of the use of model cooperatife learning obtain t value 0.00. It can be concluded that there is an influence of the use of model cooperatife learning STAD and cognitive abilities of students to the concept of the biodiversity in ecosystem preservation.
