Woro Retnaningsih, M.Pd Keyword : mid-term test, item analysis, descriptive quantitative This study is purposed to measure the quality of difficulty level, discriminating power, validity and reliability by analyzing the test items in the English mid-term test for the tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Karanganyar at the first semester of 2016/2017 academic year. The concern of this study is the quality of multiple choices items that is made by the teacher of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Karanganyar. Furthermore, this study is conducted to analyze the test items whether it is included in easy, moderate, or difficult items and whether the items are able to discriminate the upper and the lower group of students. This study is categorized as a quantitative research by using descriptive quantitative. This study presents and describes the quality of the English mid-term test which is multiple choice items and collecting numerical data that are analyzed by using mathematically based methods in particular statistics. The researcher collects the data by using documents those are students’ answer sheet, test question paper, syllabus and key answer. The data were taken from 40 student’s answer sheets as the data which are divided the students into upper group and lower group by arranging the students’ score from the highest till the lowest scores. The findings of this study are moderate level in difficulty index with the result 52.5 %, and the results of discriminating power in multiple choices items are fair 55%. The validity of the multiple choices items are 100% valid to the competency by checking the syllabus. The reliability in multiple choices items is 0.90 by applicated the formula. Therefore, the English mid-term test for the tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Karanganyar at the first semester of 2016/2017 academic year has a good quality in term of difficulty level, discriminating power, validity, and reliability.
