- Speaking skill is an important aspect of foreign language learning. This research aimed at investigating the teacher’s procedures and obstacles when implementing Collaborative Learning in teaching speaking to the year-ten students at SMAN Jogoroto. The design of this research was a case study. The purpose was to describe and explain clearly and systematically the teacher’s activities using Collaborative Learning. The respondent of this research was an English teacher teaching at SMAN Jogoroto. The data were collected through observations and interview. The observation was used to observe the teacher’s activities in classes to describe teacher’s procedures when implementing Collaborative Learning in teaching speaking. It was done three times at X IPS 1, X IPS 2, and X IPS 3. In addition, the interview was used to obtain the data related to teacher’s obstacles during the implementation of Collaborative Learning in teaching speaking. This research found that the teacher achieved thirteen indicators representing the procedure of Collaborative Learning. However, two indicators were not done by the teacher. In addition, the teacher’s Collaborative Learning in teaching speaking was able to encourage the students’ ability. Despite the success of implementing Collaborative Learning, the teacher still found some obstacles, they were time limitation and the difficulty to control classroom situation. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the teacher mostly implemented the procedures of Collaborative Learning to the year ten students well.
