- Background : Dental plaque formation initiated dental caries, therefore it should be prevented. Poyphenol substances in Piper betle Linn, as an antiseptic agent, could decreased dental plaque formation by suppressing (inhibiting) glucosyltransferase enzyme activities of Streptococcus mutans. Objective : The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial effect of Pper betle Linn infusin on Streptococcus mutans in different contact time and concentration. Method : This study was an experimental study using post test only control group design. Piper betle Linn infusion’s concentration were 100% and 50%, with contact times of 30 and 120 seconds. The optimal combination of concentration and contact time was determined by visual clarity of the suspension. Statistic analysis was done using Chi-Square Test. Result : The result of this study showed that the optimal combination of concentration and contact time of Piper betle Linn was 100% and 30 seconds. Conclusion : Piper betle Linn infusion could inhibited Streptococcus mutans correponding to various concentration and contact time.
