Poyphenol substances in Piper betle Linn, as an antiseptic agent, could decreased dental plaque formation by suppressing (inhibiting) glucosyltransferase enzyme activities of Streptococcus mutans.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial effect of Pper betle Linn infusin on Streptococcus mutans in different contact time and concentration.
Method : This study was an experimental study using post test only control group design. Piper betle Linn infusion’s concentration were 100% and 50%, with contact times of 30 and 120 seconds. The optimal combination of concentration and contact time was determined by visual clarity of the suspension. Statistic analysis was done using Chi-Square Test.
Result : The result of this study showed that the optimal combination of concentration and contact time of Piper betle Linn was 100% and 30 seconds.
Conclusion : Piper betle Linn infusion could inhibited Streptococcus mutans correponding to various concentration and contact time.
