  • vSUMMARYSitaiyah.2018.ImplementingStudentTeamAchievementDivision(STAD)StrategytoIncreasetheTenthGradersReadingComprehensionofRecountTexts.DepartmentofEnglish.FacultyofLetters.UniversitasNegeriMalang.Advisors(I)Dr.FuraidahM.A.(II)Dr.EnnyIrawatiM.Pd.KeywordsReadingComprehensionRecountTextsSTADStrategy.ThisstudyisaimedatimplementingSTADstrategytosolvetheclassroomproblemsfoundintheclassXIPS4SMANJogoroto.Thestudywasconductedonthebasisofthepreliminarystudyinwhichtheresearcheridentifiedsomeclassroomproblemsnamely(1)thestudentshadalowabilityintheirreadingcomprehensionofrecounttextsand(2)thestudentshadalowlevelofparticipationintheclassroomreadingactivities.ThustheresearcherdecidedtoimplementSTADstrategybecausethisstrategycanimprovethestudentsreadingcomprehensionandlevelofactiveparticipationintheclassroom.STADstrategyisapartofcooperativelearninginwhichthestudentsworktogetheringroupwithcertainproceduresinordertoachievecertaingoals.STADismadeupoffiveimportantcomponentsclasspresentationteamsquizzesindividualimprovementscoringandteamrecognition.ThestepsofSTADstrategyare(1)teacherdividesthestudentsintosomegroups(2)thestudentsdoanindividualreading(3)thestudentshaveagroupdiscussion(4)thestudentshaveanindividualquiz(5)teachergivesarewardtothebestgroup.Thedesignusedinthisstudywasclassroomactionresearch(CAR)wheretheresearcherbecametheteacherwhotaughtandimplementedSTADstrategy.Thesubjectsofthisstudywere31studentsofXIPS4SMANJogoroto.Theinstrumentsusedwerereadingtestobservationchecklistfieldnotesandinterviewguide.Thisstudywasconductedinonecycleconsistingoffivemeetings.TheresultofthisstudyshowedthatSTADstrategycouldsuccessfullyincreasethestudentsreadingcomprehensionandparticipation.Itwasprovenfromtheresultofthestudentsfinaltestscoresandtheobservationchecklistfilledbytwoobservers.Thestudentsfinaltestscoresshowedthattherewere27students(87.09%)whosuccessfullypassedthepassinggradeof75.Meanwhiletheresultofobservationchecklistshowedthattherewasanimprovementofstudentsactiveparticipationineverymeetingofimplementation.InconclusionSTADstrategycouldincreasethestudentsreadingcomprehensionofrecounttextsandthestudentsparticipationintheclassroom.ThustheresearchersuggestsEnglishteachertoimplementSTADstrategytodevelopstudentsreadingcompetenceinanenjoyablelearningatmosphereintheclassroom.MeanwhileforfurtherresearcherstheresearchersuggeststoimplementSTADstrategyindifferenttexttypeofreadingdothetryoutofthetestuntilgettheaccuratemeasurementbeforegivingittothetargetstudents.
