IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION OF GRADE VIII STUDENTS THROUGH PICTURE TECHNIQUE

  • The research was aimed to prove whether or not the use of picture technique can improve reading comprehension of grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 1 Tomini. The researcher used preexperimental research design. Its population was grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 1 Tomini and its samples were 30 students of class C which chosen by using cluster sampling. Its data were collected by test that consisted of pretest and posttest. The pretest and the posttest were used to find out the improvement of the students’ reading comprehension before and after the treatment. Its results indicated that there was an improvement in students’ mean score after treatment. The mean score of the students’ pretest was 57 where their mean score of the posttest was 78. It was proved by t-test value and t-table one. The t-test value was higher than the t-table one (for t-counted achieved 10.36, t-table was 1.699). Thus, picture technique is effective to improve reading comprehension of grade VIII. Keywords: Improving, Reading, Comprehension, Picture, Technique
