THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SKIMMING TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION

  • The research was aimed at finding that the implementation of skimming technique can improve the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension at SMP Negeri 1 Palu. Pre-experimental research design was applied in this research. The sample of this research was selected by purposive sampling technique. The instruments of data collection were the test and non-test. The test was administered to the students in the pre-test and the post-test while non-test was observation.The result of observation found that the students’ lack of vocabulary and they are notinterested in teaching learning process especially in English subject. The result of the pre-test was 58.67 and the post-test was 78.38 while the result in deviation was 1985. Referring to the t-table value by applying the 0.05 level of significant and (34 - 1 = 33) the degree of freedom (df), the researcher found the value of t-counted (11.54) was higher than t-table (1.697). The result of the data analysis showed that the implementation of skimming technique is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension.
