USING STORY FACE STRATEGY TO IMPROVE STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION SKILL

  • The objective of this research is to prove if the use of Story Face Strategy can improve readingcomprehension of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Parigi. This research used quasiexperimentalresearch design. Cluster sampling technique was employed to draw the sample ofthis research which consisted of 30 students of X IPS B as the experimental group and 34students of X MIPA E as the control group. The data were collected by using pretest andposttest. The pretest was administered to measure the students’ reading comprehension beforethe treatment while the posttest was administered to measure the improvement of the students’reading comprehension after the treatment. The mean score of pre-test of the experimentalgroup was 53.78 while control group 56.47. The mean score of post-test of the experimentalgroup was 78 while control group was 66.27. In analyzing the data, the researcher used 0.05 aslevel of significance and the 62 (30+34-2) degree of freedom (df). The tcounted value was 7.64and ttable value was 1.67. The tcounted value was greater than ttable value, it means that thehypothesis was accepted. In other words the use of Story Face Strategy can improve readingcomprehension of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Parigi.Keywords: Story face, reading comprehension, narrative text, inferential comprehension
