USING VOCABULARY NOTEBOOKS TO IMPROVE VOCABULARY MASTERY OF SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS

- The objective of this research is to find out whether or not using vocabulary notebooks is effective to improve vocabulary mastery. The researcher applied quasi experimental design. The population of this research was the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Tolitoli. The sample was 67 students of VII F as experimental and VII A as control one, selected by using cluster random sampling. The data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference of the pretest and posttest. The mean scores of experimental group pretest and posttest were 45.23 and 68.70. The mean scores of control group pretest and posttest were 51.36 and 61.63. The result of t-test was 3.98. By applying the degree of freedom (df) (34+33−2=65) and 0.05 level of significance, the researcher found that the value of t-table was 1.6693. The result of the data analysis showed that the hypothesis is accepted by regarding to the analysis that t-test was higher than t-table. Therefore, using vocabulary notebooks is effective to improve vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade students. Keywords: Vocabulary Notebooks; Vocabulary; Vocabulary Mastery
