- The relationship between husband and wife changed if one of them has chronic disease. After a serious stroke encounter, a husband experiences physical disability and psychological disturbance. Inevitably, he needs help from other other people. This condition affects the wife’s feeling as a spouse and caretaker. Therefore, a wife should make adjustment in dealing with changes that happen husband and wife. The instrument used to collect data is the in-depth interview method. The sample consists of five wives whose husband suffered serious stroke for a maximum period of five years. The sample is restricted to middle-aged woman, whose age is between 40 to 65 years old. Data collection was conducted within three months, started from May 12th, 2005 until August 11th, 2005. The result of study shows that every subject has undergone cognitive, motor, sexual, communication, and emotional adjustment in relation to their husbands. They also adjust to their economic, social life and activities as an individual.
