  • This research is intended to evaluate mother’s role in increasing their children’s (from 6 to 12 years old) reading ability. The mother’s role is evaluated in nine factors based on Tampubolon’s theory. This research involves 2 working mothers and 2 housewives in Gadog Village. The data are collected using theory based/operational construct sampling technique. In depth interviewed used for gathered information from subjects. The results indicates that difference between working mothers and housewives due to the quantity in their get along with their children. Working mothers tend to spend less time with their children compared to housewives. Therefore, working mothers don’t know specifically their children’s development, including the reading ability. Children’s of housewives tend to read earlier than children’s of working mothers. Two groups has similarity in their modelled to their children, talking, reading, and telling the story, play with articles, try to make their family to read, making an articles attention to their children’s weakness in reading, and using their environment’s sources due to reading.
