- This paper aims to reveal the maslahah standard in the order of methodology of Islamic law in the view of Al-Ghazali who stated in his work, Al-Mustashfa. The ideas of Al-Ghazali about al-Istishlah, the term used for the said al-maslahah, in the Al-Mustashfa examined and presented through descriptive analytical methods, and to find a full conclusion, a number of other works are also examined as a comparison. From the study found, that al-istishlah/maslahah according to Al-Ghazali can only be used as a guide in determining Islamic law if it meets the following conditions: the first (core), in line with the actions Syara’ (which is intended to preserve religion, life, intellect, descent, and treasure). Secondly, it should be categorized maslahah dharurat or hajat who occupies a position or intent dharurat. Thirdly, meet the criteria dharurat (primary), kulliyyah (universal) and qath'iyyah (definitely). Additionally, the application al-istishlah (maslahah) is only performed on issues in the field muamalah, not ibadah issues.Keywords: Maslahah, Islamic Law, Al-Mustashfa.
