UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK FIKOSIANIN DAN EKSOPOLISAKARIDA Spirulina platensis TERHADAP BAKTERI Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus DAN Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus
Daftar Isi:
- Spirulina platensis is a blue-green algae containing substances that are useful as antibacterial bacteria Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus. Spirulina platensis metabolites that can be exploited as antibacterial include phycocyanin, and exopolysaccharide. The purpose of this study was to determine the benefits of phycocyanin extract and exopolysaccharide from Spirulina platensis as antibacterial bacteria Methicillin - Resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus. The characterization of phycocyanin extract showed that phycocyanin has maximum wavelength at 621 nm and molecular weight of phycocyanin extract of SDS-PAGE yield that is 15 kDa in α and 16 kDa subunits in β subunit. The exopolysaccharide ethanol extract yield is 0.083%. The antibacterial activity test against phycocyanin extract and exopolysaccharide was done by agar diffusion method with paper disc. The result of measurement of antibacterial inhibition zone against bacteria Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, obtained phycocyanin extract at concentration 2 and 2.5% have inhibition zone 2.35 ± 0.60 mm and 4.17 ± 0.19 mm, while extract exopolysaccharide produce inhibitory power at concentration 2.5% with zone of 2.95 ± 0.64 mm. Measurement of the antibacterial inhibition zone against Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus bacteria, phycocyanin extract at concentrations of 1.5, 2, and 2.5% had inhibit zone respectively 2.42 ± 0.43 mm, 2.93 ± 0.40 mm, 4.05 ± 0.06 mm, while extract exopolysaccharide inhibited at concentrations of 2 and 2.5% with inhibit zone 3.44 ± 0.21 and 4.05 ± 0.08 mm. Phycocyanin extract has better antibacterial activity than extract exopolysaccharide to Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus bacteria.
