  • Improvement in the field of technology and the development of unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAV) allow for wider use of UAVs in the field of forest product inventory. The height of tree is one of the characteristics of a tree that has an important meaning in the inventory of forest products. High measurements are needed in estimating the potential of trees and stands. In this study, a system prototype will be designed with digital image techniques using image segmentation with triangular similarity method. Before the image tree height being processed, the grayscalling and thresholding stages are carried out. The image retrieval process uses unmanned aircraft that have been designed using a camera to take the tree images. After going through the preprocessing stage of the image, the shadow in a camera is calculated which is the result of the projection of a lens. The shadow will form on the sensor surface inside the camera. To calculate the height of the shadow on the sensor, a comparison is made between the size of the object in the camera sensor and the size of the actual object. Before measuring the height of the shadow, the pixel height measurement is done first, then the height of the object is calculated using the triangular similarity method. Test results conducted on 15 different tree species obtained accuracy values of 94.34% using RunCam HD cameras and 92.01% using Xiaomi Action Cam cameras taken from the average value of testing accuracy.
