  • Second degree of burn wound is at risk of infection, dehydration, and other serious complications if not treated immediately. The bitter leaves (Vernonia amygdalina) contains secondary metabolite such as alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins that can accelerate the second degree of burns. This study purpose to determine the eff) ect of ethanol extract of bitter leaves second degree of burn woun healing activity rate. Twenty five Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 5 groups control positive group was treated with the lanakeloid® cream, normal group, and the test groups were treated with the extract of bitter leaves with 3 variation of doses (50, 100, and 200 mg/kgBW. Second degree burns are made by using an iron plate that heated in boiling water for 5 minutes and attached to the dorsal for 10 seconds. The extract of bitter leaves were applied once a day of 14 days. The observed parameters include extensive burns and percentage of wound healing. Second degree of burn wound area data were analyzed using an one-way ANOVA test to see the different on percentage recovery between group. The result showed that the extract of bitter leaves with dose of 200 mg/kgBW had proven to accelerate second degree of burn wound healing as 68.67% that arcived in 14 days. The results of statistical tests states there are significant differences (p<0.05) of percentage of burn wound healing between negative control group and all treatment groups it showed that positive control and treatment with dose variation can accelerate second degree of burn wound healing.
