  • The objectives of this research were (1) to analyze the effect of land area on the productivity of the galangal farming system; (2) to calculate the income of galangal farming on own land plots and and borrowed land plots and see if there is difference of the income of the galangal farm on own land plots and borrowed land plots; (3) to find out the socio-economic conditions between owner farmers and tenant farmers; (4) to formulate a proactive strategy between the owner farmer and the tenant farmers with the status of the land. This research was conducted in Sukamulya District, Sematang Borang Sub-District, Palembang City. The results showed that the average income of galangal farming on their own land plots was IDR 67,018,136,51 per hectare per year whereas in the borrowed land plots was IDR 61,921,321.48 per hectare per year. The result of analyze mathematically show that there is a difference in the income of the galangal farming on own land plots and the borrowed land plots with a difference of was 5,096,815.03, but statistically, there is no difference in the income of the galangal farm on own land plots and the borrowed land plots with significance value of 0, 319. There are differences from several indicators of social conditions on the owner farmers and tenant farmers, that was on the willingness of the group and the network many involved with groups in the research area, willingness to help each other, the strength of farmers' solidarity, and collective action and cooperation. While on the fulfillment of the needs of households on the owner farmers to be higher than the tenant farmers. With the social conditions and economic conditions the farmer could develop his farming activities for the future of the farmers themselves. Proactive strategy of farmers due to the status of land concession on the owner farmers were in quadrant I was S-O strategy where the farmers use their strength to get oppurtunities. While the tenant farmers were in quadrant II was S-T strategy where the farmers use their strength to confront threats.
