PENGARUH BEBERAPA JENIS WARNA CAHAYA LAMPU TERHADAP PERKEMBANGAN HAMA KUMBANG BUBUK BIJI JAGUNG SITOPHILUS ZEAMAIS (MOTSCH)

- The research was aimed at comprehending the development and behavior of maize weevil (Sitophilus zeamais) in response to various light colors. The research was conducted from September to November 2017 in the Insectarium of Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The experiental research was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatments, no light, red light, green light, yellow light, blue light, and white light. The results showed that S. zeamais prefers no light. The no light treatment caused the highest number of surface appearance of the weevil imagoes amounted to 31,00 imagoes, 28,66 of new imagoes, 14,33 larvae, and 13,00 pupae. Damage on maize seeds caused by S. zeamais under no light was 27,03% and caused the seed weight reduction up to 47,41%. Colored light preferred by maize weevil was blue light. Under blue light, the number of maize weevil imagoes appeared on the surface was 11,33 imagoes and the number of new imagoes was 23,66. The damage caused by S. zeamais on maize seeds under blue light was 4,78%. Light colors highly influenced the development and behavior of maize weevil S. zeamais. The weevil did not prefer red, green, yellow, blue and white lights shown by their movement activities.
