  • Dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) was one of alternative energy developed to produce electrical energy with natural materials and eco friendly. The objective of this research was to determine the performance of Dye Sensitized Solar Cell by using extract of snapdragon root (Ruellia tuberosa L.) flowers as photosensitizer on various thicknesses of TiO2 paste and light intensity. The research was conducted from October until March 2018 at the Laboratory of Chemistry of Agricultural Product, and Laboratory of Energy and Electrification, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya. This research consisted of three stages: preparation of DSSC structure, arrangement and assembly of DSSC sandwich, and performance analysis. The variation of light intensity of DSSC were 594.396, 103.964, and 40.448 W m-2 with the thickness variation of TiO2 paste of 0.124, 0.247, 0.371, 0.494, 0.618 mm. The parameters observed were spectral absorbance of dye extracted from snapdragon root flowers, the characteristics of current and voltage, power, fill factor, and efficiency of DSSC. The electrical characteristic of DSSC with thickness 0.494 mm TiO2 paste with light intensity 594.396 W m-2 showed the best performance with Voc, Isc, Pmax, FF, and efficiency of 298 mV, 0.0905 mA, 4.84 mW, 0.1795, and 1.6824 %, respectively. DSSC with thickness 0.618 mm TiO2 paste and light intensity 40.448 W m-2 gave the lowest performance with Voc, Isc, Pmax, FF, andefficiency of 73 mV, 0.0066 mA, 0.0912 mW, 0.1893, and 0.4659 %, respectively.
