  • Research has been done about “The effect of adding FAME (Fatty Acid Metyhl Ester) from the waste of coconut oil with diesel oil to the fuel specification”. It has been done esterification of free fatty acids from the waste of coconut oil with carbon sulfonate.montmorillonite catalyst in the manufacture of methyl ester. Esterification with methanol pa conducted at a temperature of 80 °C for 24 hours. The purpose of research is to determine the optimum condition of blending the optimum condition of blending methyl ester from the waste of coconut oil with diesel oil, with concentration of methyl ester 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% dan 20% (v/v). Besides the purpose of mixing methyl ester into diesel fuel to increase the cetane value because cetane value of biodiesel (methyl ester) is greater than diesel. Characterization used ASTM (American Standard for Testing Material) methods. The parameters measured were of specific gravity, density, kinematic viscosity, distillation, cetane index, pour point, and colour. The results showed that the levels of fatty acids in coconut oil liquid waste by an average of 64.47%, while the fatty acid methyl ester content of 7.65%. The percentage of conversion of esterification which is equal to 88.15%, this shows that the liquid waste oil has great potential to be made into methyl esters. The test results on the parameters, optimum conditions a mixture of methyl ester and diesel oil is on the composition of 15% (B15) composition with 0.8402 of specific gravity, 839.8 kg/m3 of density, 3.120 cSt of viscosity, 51.8 of cetane index, the volume of the resulting product returned 97 mL, -12 oC of pour point and 1.5 of colour. Blending composition B5, B10 and B20 still meet the specification requirements of diesel oil.
