  • In the industrial world, the metal coating process is very concerned about the quality of metal, unfortunately the metal quality will decrease due to its environmental influence, causing the efficiency of a metal is not the maximum one of its factors the occurrence of corrosion. The problems encountered in the metal coating that occurs is the occurrence of corrosion and layer defects are not evenly distributed on the specimen. This study aims to study the chrom layer on the electroplating process. In this research, low carbon steel JIS G 3101 SS 400, specimen size 100 mm x 40 mm x 4 mm with current density of coating thickness and roughness. Current density is used 15 amperes, 20 amperes, 35 amperes and time 20, 40, 60 minutes. The research process that is, literature study, do testing chemical composition, chromic Acid solution, Sulfuric Acid, and testing the weight, thickness and roughness of the coating. The result of the research shows that the longer the dyeing time, the higher the coating weight, thickness and surface roughness value. The weight value is 2,431 grams, the thickness is 0.0188 μm and the roughness of 20.6 μm at the current density variation 15 Amper time 60 minutes.
