  • Family support was a support that is beneficial to the individual obtained from his family and self esteem is the result of the assessment of acceptance or rejection of the individual to himself. This study aims to identify the relationship of family support with self esteem on palliative care of cervical cancer patients who undergo palliative care therapy in the form of chemotherapy in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This research used analytic survey research design. Sampling used total sampling technique and samples obtained was 51 people. The research instrument was a questionnaire that included demographic data and statements regarding family support and self esteem. Data collection took place on 11-18 January 2018. The correlation test used in this research is chi-square test. The results showed that there was a relationship between family support and self esteem in palliative care of cervical cancer patients, who underwent palliative therapy in the form of chemotherapy at Dr Mohammad Hoesin Palembang (p = 0.016, OR = 4,242). meaning that cancer patients with high family support have a tendency of self esteemnya increased by 4.242 or 4 times greater than patients with low cervical cancer family support. The results showed that there was a relationship between family support and self esteem in palliative care of cervical cancer patients. Recommendations for further research are to examine the factors that affect self esteem of cervical cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
