- In the era of highly developed industrial and technological developments, the need for plastic will continue to increase. With the increase in the amount of plastic waste, the emersion of plastic waste becomes a matter of concern, one way to overcome this problem is by recycling it. Recycling is a way to change waste into new objects, to reduce waste cumulation, to reduce consumption of new raw materials, and to reduce pollution. Thus, this research was conducted to obtain a used plastic shredder or crusher type Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) which has a Tensile Strength of 48 - 72 Mpa, this type of plastic can be used to make plastic beverage bottles. Therefore in this thesis, the author have designed a shredder machine model that is able to produce a form of plastic waste in a small size. The purpose of this study was to design a plastic shredder machine with an economical model of cutting knife design and to analyze the effect of cutting knife design on the result and size of the piece produced. This design was preceded by designing technical drawings and 3D design of machine components used, determining the material used such as ST 33 shaft material which has Tensile Strength 310 N / mm2 and blade material AA 5052 which has a shear stress of 140 Mpa and then making the machine components and finally assembling it into a complete machine. The data obtained starts from the required force of 400 N, torque with a load of 16 Nm, no load torque of 0.0028 Nm, total torque of 16.1 Nm, motor power required is 105.6 watts, permissible shear stress of 25.8 N / mm2 , minimum shaft diameter of 15 mm, shear stress arising at 24.1 N / mm2, pulley diameter of 10 in, belt length of 40 in and the test result of counting plastic weighing 1 kg took 36 minutes 43 seconds.
