  • Synthesis of Zn/Cr and Zn/Fe layered double hydroxide material have been carried out using coprecipitation method. The layered double hydroxide material Zn/Cr and Zn/Fe synthesized products were applied as adsorbents of congo red dye. The layered double hydroxide materials Zn/Cr and Zn/Fe were characterized using XRD analysis and FT-IR Spectrophotometer. The characterization using XRD analysis showed Zn/Cr layered double hydroxide has basal spacing of 7.23 Å at the diffraction angle of (2)12.9° and Zn/Fe has 5.737 Å at the diffraction angle of (2)15.430°. Characterization of FT-IR spectrophotometer showed that the wavenumber 416.2 cm-1, 848.68 cm-1 and 445 cm-1 stated Zn-O, Cr-O and Fe-O vibration. Maximum light absorption by congo red dye occurs at a wavelength of 497 nm and at pH 10. The congo red dye adsorption process using Zn/Cr layered double hydroxide that has an adsorption rate of 0.0050 g.mg-1 min-1 and Zn/Fe layered double hydroxide adsorbent is 0.0110 g.mg-1 min-1. The gibbs free energy (ΔG) of congo red adsorption process using Zn/Cr and Zn/Fe layered double hydroxide have a positive value.
