  • Fabrication and characterization of electrodes Pt-Co/C and its application directly in direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) has been done. The electrodes are made by using a mixture of Platinum and Cobalt catalyst that is distributed to nafion membrane surface by using Catalyst Coated Membrane (CCM) method and then mixed with gas diffusion layer (GDL) on anode side and cathode side until it formed Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA). The electrodes are characterized using XRD, Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) and electrical conductivity. Analysis of XRD results showed the highest platinum intensity value at Pt: Co = 60 : 40 of 1675 cps at 2 = 39.72o. The value of the catalytic activity of the cyclic voltammetry test and the highest electrical conductivity measurement value were shown in the Pt : Co = 20 : 80. This showed that at Pt : Co = 20 : 80 it had good catalytic activity and electrical conductivity value, but when the testing Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) performance, the electrodes has the best performance are found in the Pt : Co = 40 : 60. However, the electrode with Pt : Co = 20 : 80 also showed a good enough performance.
