- In the Rules of Minister of Public Works No. 13/PRT/M/2011, Palembang City Government through the Deputy Highways obliged to conducts monitoring and reporting on the implementation of road maintenance as an establishment to maintain and improve the function and quality of all roads in the city of Palembang. One of them is to supervised and do roads maintenance. The purpose of this study was to determine how supervision of road maintenance is conducted by the Department of Public Works Highways of Palembang by solving roads issue, in order to improve road services in the form of increasing the structures and the geometry to achieve an increasement of service as planned. In this study, it had been described the surveillance criteria proposed by Siagian in Silalahi. The Informants in this study were determined by using purposive sampling with some consideration of people to be the informants known the problems associated with the road maintenance supervision in Palembang. Informants in this study were 3 people with one person as key informants. Data analysis techniques used in this research is qualitative descriptive analysis techniques, the research done to find out and explain the value of independent variables found in the field, without comparing or linking with other variables. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the Road Maintenance Supervision by the Public Works Department of Highways in Palembang through the supervision of Palembang City Road maintenance is basically carried out with several stages, which is the reporting phase, the preparatory phase and the implementation phase. However, as in practice, it is known that such supervision had not been done properly. Existing obstacles in conducting surveillance has also become one of the causes that oversight conducted to be less than optimal, one of the cause was there had not been a fixed routine schedules of the surveillance activities. What could they do now are only going to the field to do the surveillance after there were reports from the road users, mass media or community leaders alone. As an advice from researchers, there had to be madefixed schedule from Palembang Department of Highways, so the surveillance could be done optimally and matched the existing plan.
