  • Ludwigia leptocarpa is a colonizer of semi aquatic plant where habitat in the swamp. Based on the literature, it been reported from secondary metabolite contained in this plant are steroid, terpenoid, and flavonoid. The aim of the research are to isolate and characterize steroid compound as well as its toxicity of n-heksana fraction and the isolate compound of L.leptocarpa leaves. The extraction process was conducted by maceration using methanol as a solvent and followed separation by liquid-liquid extraction using n-hexane, and purification were conducted by several chromatography techniques. The isolated compound was a obtained white solid form (7,3 mg) with melting point 114-115,8 oC. Based on spectral data IR and 1H-NMR, also comparison with literature as well as the authentic sample, suggested that the isolated compound was a β-sitosterol. The cytotoxic activity from n-hexane fraction and the isolated compound against Artemia salina using BSLT’s method showed that n-hexane fraction and the isolated compound were active cytotoxic with LC50 560,71 μg/mL and 30,52 μg/mL respectively.
