  • The quality of corn straw as animal feed can be improved with silage technology that is fermentation process in anaerob condition, to improve or maintain the quality of concentrated feed digestibility can be added with Non Protein Nitrogen (NPN) dan molases. The aim of this determine was to study the effect of silage straw maize with NPN and molasses supplementation to the value of gas production rate, concentration CH4 and Short Chain Fatty Acid (SCFA) through in vitro. This research was held on July until Agust 2017 in Experimental Farm Animal Science Departement and Feed and Nutrition Laboratory of Animal Science Departement, Agriculture Faculty of Sriwijaya University. The design used was Complete Random Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 4 replicates. Treatment of silage of corn straw (Control), Silage of corn straw + 2% with NPN and molases (P1), silage of corn straw + 4% with NPN and molasses (P2). The observed variables include gas production rate, concentration CH4 and Short Chain Fatty Acid (SCFA). The results of this study indicate that the production rate of gasimbang (P<0.05) and CH4 concentration has no effect (P>0.05), whereas SCFA Acetate, Propionate have an effect (P<0.05) and Butirat has no effect (P>0,05). Treatment with Non Protein Nitrogen (NPN) and molasses citations on Silage Straw Maize is able to produce gas and CH4 concentration and increase SCFA (Shart Chain Fatty Acid). The best treatment at P2, in P2 yields the gas production rate and the lowest CH4 concentration and SCFA is higher than P0.
