  • The synthesis of layered double hydroxide Zn/Al and Zn/Cr has been done. The result by using XRD characterization was showed succesfully appear in 2θ at 10o and 10o with the basal spasing of layered double hydroxide Zn/Al is 7.574 Ǻ and layered double hydroxide Zn/Cr is 7.32 Ǻ. The characterization by using BET showed the surface area of Zn/Al 9.4117 m2/g and Zn/Cr 118.9524 m2/g. The characterization using XRF showed the composition of Zn/Al (3:1) that consists of zinc 91.48% & alumunium 2.9 % , Zn/Cr (2:1) that consists of zinc 81.13% and also chromium 16.7 %. Characterization by using FT-IR showed that the spesific area of layered double hydroxide appears at 3300-3800 cm-1 as the peak of OH, anion NO3 - at 1381 cm-1, and also the vibration appears below 1000 cm-1 from M-O bonding. Zn/Cr has the best result as the hydrogen storage in the pressure 2 bar, 90 minutes, and 200 mesh produced the hydrogen capacity 69.3959 mg/g. The optimum condition of layered double hydroxide Zn/Al as the hydrogen storage was formed at pressure 1 bar, 120 minutes, and 200 mesh produced the hydrogen capacity 64.4743 mg/g. Zn/Al and Zn/Cr has the hydrogen capacity higher than diatomic gas such as oxygen or nitrogen, so layered double hydroxide Zn/Al and Zn/Cr more selective to hydrogen than oxygen and nitrogen. This is due to the involvement of hydrogen bonds beside physical adsorption in the hydrogen storage process by Zn/Al and Zn/Cr.
