  • Pare fruits (Momordica charantia Linn.) had been known to contain saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, steroid dan triterpenoids component that could act as a cytotoxic agent. This study aimed to determine find cytotoxic activity of ethanol, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane extract and juice of pare. The cytotoxic test of each extract was carried out using the BSLT method (Brine Shrimp Lethality Test), this method is often used as a preliminary screening of the active compounds contained in plant extracts as anticancer. The cytotoxic activity test was conducted using various concentrations of 31,25; 62,5; 125; 250, dan 500 ppm with control solution (artificial seawater). The resulting LC50 values in each extract using the Microsoft Excel probit analysis program are respectively 294,440 μg/mL; 445,090 μg/mL; 937,728 μg/mL and 484,269 μg/mL. Physical and chemical characteristics of ethanol extract have organoleptis with brown color, thick and sweet smell typical, water soluble and ethanol 80% and 26,315%; Bj 1,011 ± 0,001 g/mL; water contant 8,585% ± 0,589; total ash contant 13,229% ± 1,441; and ash content is not soluble acid 1,556% ± 0,059. Statistical analysis with two way annova showed a significant difference in each extract, with significance value of 0,000 (p<0,05). The results of this study indicate that the highest cytotoxic activity is found in ethanol extract with LC50 value of 294,44 μg/mL which is classified as low toxic.
