- Peat has special characteristics, one of which has a very high moisture content. This research was conducted to determine the moisture content of peat and the characteristic of peat moisture content in Sepucuk area of Ogan Komering Ilir Regency by conducting heating process based on variation of temperature and heating time and different depth, where the longer the heating time, the greater the moisture content lost in the peat as well as when the heating temperature is increased, the higher the heating temperature the greater the moisture content lost in the peat. From the calculated moisture content lost the rate of peat water loss per hour at a minimum of 30oC heating temperature of 0.63-1.15 gr / hour and at a maximum temperature of 200oC peat water loss rate of 31.07-32.73 gr / hour. To determine the optimal peat moisture content in this research, it is recommended that the temperature of curing of 150oC with maximum heating time of 15 hours, and based on the measurement of moisture content that has been done on the temperature of 150oC for the depth of 1 meter, 2 meter and 3 meter peat in this research area belong to peat hemic with peat moisture content respectively 317.29%, 515.44%, and 462.52%.
