  • There are several problems with mineral oil-based transformer insulation which are not environmentally friendly, undecomposed, cannot be renewed. Vegetable oil Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is an alternative oil insulation transformer because it’s environmentally friendly and commonly found. In this thesis research the author examines the breakdown voltage characteristics and the factors that influence the breakdown of VCO vegetable oil stress which refers to the standard IEC 60 156, the standard of insulation oil breakdown voltage is > 30 kV with oil temperature conditioning. The oil used is pure oil which must be treated first. Therefore heating is carried out using a hot plate in order to improve oil quality according to the desired standard with temperature variations (30 ° C, 40 ° C, 50 ° C, 60 ° C, 70 ° C, 80 ° C, 90 ° C, 100 ° C, 110 ° C, 120 ° C). From the results of testing the heating of the oil using a hot plate, the water content, viscosity, flash point values decrease and cause an increase in the breakdown voltage value. Oil through voltage before being heated (at normal temperature) is 8 kV which is far from the standard. After heating, at temperatures of 70 ° C, 80 ° C, 90 ° C, 100 ° C, 110 ° C, 120 ° C with a value of 39 kV, 38 kV, 37 kV, 36 kV, 40 kV, 38 kV meet the standards IEC 60 156 while at a temperature of 30 ° C, 40 ° C, 50 ° C, 60 ° C with a value of 8 kV, 9 kV, 10 kV, 17 kV does not meet the standards of IEC 60 156.
